Lessons in Living

If you thought you’d heard the last of me, I have troubling news. Not only am I back, but I’m here to stay.

As I progressed through college, I lost my love for writing. I wrote for school, for our paper, even helping friends with their essays. I stopped writing about what I loved and what I learned. I’ve reached a point in my adulthood where I can only live by what I love, and I love to be the center of attention. I mean, you are reading my blog. All jokes aside, what I love is yapping. I love to talk. However, sometimes it’s easier to write than it is to talk. So consider this one big yapping session.

In my 20s, I’ve learned a lot about myself, and I’m learning more every day. While most days I’m not certain of who I am or who I want to be, I’m always certain of one thing: there is always more for me to learn. I learn things every day that I wish someone had taught me sooner, or that I didn’t have to experience to learn; such as how terrible gin tastes, that my favorite pair of jeans from high school definitely won’t fit me anymore, or, and this one’s my favorite, that nothing goes according to plan.

My whole life, I thought I knew exactly what I wanted. At 22, I wanted to be engaged, living with my fiancé and working for an incredible magazine. I wanted to come home after work to my perfect puppy and my perfect apartment. I wanted to wear all the best clothes and be rich and skinny and pretty. But dreams aren’t reality, and plans change. I’m 22, living at home, working the same job I did in high school. My boyfriend is on another continent. I’m not rich, I’m not as skinny as I want to be, and the worst part is I don’t have my perfect puppy.

Navigating life when it’s nothing like you expected is relentless and exhausting, but I’m here to share it with you. When I started this blog years ago, I thought it would be centered around the college experience, but I wasn’t committed, and I didn’t deliver the story. Now it’s time to finish what I started, pick up where I left off, and bring you my new series: Lessons in Living.

Lessons in Living is going to cover everything. The nitty-gritty I’m scared to share. Navigating friendships in adult life. Long distance and how much it sucks. Career goals and working your way toward them. Learning to be on your own and to love yourself. All of the scariest parts of post-grad life and early adulthood.

If you’ve made it this far, thank you, and I hope to see you back here next week for my first lesson.

All my love, always,

RK
